Jared Bednar addresses the elephant in the room.
There's no doubt that the biggest question coming into Game 3 of the Western Conference Final on Sunday night is whether or not Colorado Avalanche star defenseman Cale Makar will be healthy enough to play for the first time in this series.
On Sunday, just hours ahead of Game 3, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar met with members of the media and was asked the question that has been on everyone's mind since the Avalanche went down 0-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights in this series. Unfortunately Bednar either doesn't know the answer or was playing coy with reporters ahead of the game and refused to give a straight answer regarding Makar's status for Game 3.
"You'll have to wait and see," said Bednar on Sunday.
As I mentioned it may very well be the case that the Avalanche are waiting until the very last possible moment to make a decision, giving Makar every bit of time he can possibly get in order to be ready for what is a critical game in this series tonight.
There are however some who believe Makar will be forced to remain on the sidelines once again.
If Makar is indeed forced to miss Game 3 it is hard to envision a world in which the Avalanche will be able to mount a comeback in this series. Makar was having a terrific playoffs despite dealing with injury, scoring 4 goals and adding 1 assist for 5 points in 9 games and a plus minus rating of +5.
There is simply no way for the Avalanche to adequately replace a player of his caliber.
