The rumors of Jaromir Jagr's retirement have been greatly exaggerated.

This past weekend there were reports that future Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr has officially retired from professional hockey following the conclusion of his 38th season.

Not so fast though...

“Not official. I didn’t say that," Jagr told NHL.com earlier today.

However, Jagr did say though that while he hasn't officially retired he feels that "tt doesn’t make sense,” for him to continue playing.

“To practice at my age, and get ready at my age, spending so much time in my life doing this for hockey, and my ice time is like maximum 12 minutes a game, and it’s the traveling and everything. At my age, it’s not worth it."

Say it ain't so, Jammy!

“When you calculate the time I have to get ready for the games, if I enjoy it during the game, mathematically, it doesn’t make sense to me," Jagr said. "I still like it, but I don’t know how long I’m going to be active, be able to walk and enjoy my life. I’m 54 so on my side I’ve got maybe 15 more years. I want to spend it the way that I want to. I’m talking about active. You can be alive until you’re probably 80, if you’re lucky. But I’m talking about the active life.”

Jagr played just six games for his hometown Kladno Knights this season, posting one assist, with his last game coming on Dec. 21.

It's also worth noting that Jagr is the majority owner of the Knights and he has expressed in the past that the team relies on him to keep themselves afloat. Jagr sells tickets and jerseys in Kladno and if you take him out of the equation then there's no telling how things could go for the team. On the flip side of the coin though... is it fair to expect him to continue suiting up just to keep the team alive? At a certain point, the Knights will have to navigate life in the Post-Jagr Era and that era could begin in 2026-27.

So... is Jagr retiring? No one is quite clear... including Jagr himself.

Stay tuned for a potential year 39 next October.
