Jaromir Jagr reveals he almost signed with a different NHL team.

This summer there were some serious doubts about whether or not veteran forward Jaromir Jagr would find a National Hockey League franchise to play for, but those doubts were removed when he finally signed a deal with the Calgary Flames.

However as it turns out the likelihood of Jagr not playing wasn't all that high, because another NHL franchise was heavily involved in the process and in fact Jagr himself admitted this week that it all came down to a last minute decision.

"You know what, it was very close. Very close,” Jagr said as per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch “It just didn’t happen. I had to make a decision in probably two, three hours, and I made this decision.”

It sounds like the living legend seriously considered an offer from the St. Louis Blues before eventually making a decision to sign in Calagry, and given how strong the Blues look this season you have to wonder if Jagr feels he made the right choice.

The Blues currently sit at the top of the Central division with 27 points, making them one of the strongest looking teams in the NHL so far this season, while the Flames have 20 points(with two fewer games played) and sit in the middle of the Pacific division.

“Look at their record,” Jagr said. “They’re a very good hockey club.”

However it sounds like not the talent on the team, but rather the location and the personnel in Calgary are what convinced Jagr to choose the Flames over the Blues.

“At my age, I felt very comfortable to go somewhere where at least I know somebody as a coach,” Jagr said. “Plus, I never played in Canada, so I wanted to try it.”

Do you think Jagr made the right choice?
