Jaromir Jagr to return to the Penguins?

Are the Pittsburgh Penguins on the verge of bringing back a franchise icon into the fold once again? 

According to a report from Josh Yohe of The Athletic, the Penguins want to hire Jaromir Jagr for a front office position, which would be his first work back in the National Hockey League since he briefly suited up for the Calgary Flames in 2017-18.

Yohe wrote in his most recent column in response to a fan question: 

"The Penguins want Jagr to be an employee moving forward. I’m not sure what role. I think they’ll take what they can get — the more of Jagr’s presence and hockey mind that he’s willing to share, the better."

Jagr's 1,921 points in the National Hockey League are the most by any European-born player in League history. He currently ranks 2nd overall in Pittsburgh Penguins franchise history in points behind only Mario Lemieux, and he was recently honored by the franchise by having his iconic jersey No. 68 retired and hanged in the rafters at PPG Paints Arena last month.

“I gotta say what a weekend so far,” Jagr said during his jersey retirement speech on February 18. “It’s beautiful. I practiced with the team. I was pretty good. Let me tell you. I was pretty good. I had dinner with the boys. Thank you, guys. Today all the highlights, videos, goals, even the hair — great memories.

“I remember my first coach Bob Johnson always say ‘today is a great day for hockey,'” Jagr continued. “I’m going to use it and I’m going to change it a little bit. I’m going to say, today is a great day for me. To be here with you, hearing the cheers, I don’t even have to score, that’s beautiful. That’s never gets old.”

 Jagr even joined the Penguins for practice the previous day, and also took warmups with the team on the 18th.
