Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jeff Carter really has not been doing much of the things that he was brought to Steel City to do upon being acquired in 2021 and subsequently rewarded with a multi-year contract extension. With only 11 goals on the season, he hasn't been posting the kind of offensive numbers that GM Ron Hextall was envisioning, despite the fact that his career average has been dropping over the past several seasons dating back to his days with the Los Angeles Kings.

It was Carter who did tally twice during last night's Penguins victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche, which was able to snap a four game losing skid. For Carter, it was his first time lighting the lamp since doing so on February 26 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and it also happened to be his first multi-goal game since January 11 of last season.

But as far as Carter is concerned, he doesn't care what media members write about him. In fact, he told them as much.

“I couldn’t care less what you guys write, to be completely honest with you,” Carter said in the dressing room afterward during his postgame media remarks. “You can do whatever you want. The only thing that I care about is in here, and it’s a big win for us.”

“It’s a big game for us,” Carter continued. “They’re the defending Stanley Cup champions and a team that’s been rolling pretty good. Hopefully this is a good confidence boost for us.”

Carter has one year remaining on his contact with the Penguins that sees him carry a cap hit of $3.125 million.
