Jeff Petry gets bad news from Red Wings
It's been an up and down first few games for the veteran blue liner in Detroit.

The Detroit Red Wings made a dream come true over the summer, acquiring defenseman Jeff Petry from the Montreal Canadiens (after he'd been traded there after having played last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins) and giving him the chance to suit up for his hometown team.
After all, Petry is a native of the Detroit suburb of Ann Arbor, and his father Dan Petry happens to be a professional champion in his own right as a pitcher for Major League Baseball's Detroit Tigers in 1984. And in a pretty cool nod to his dad, Petry decided to wear jersey No. 46 with the Red Wings, the same number Dan wore as a member of the Tigers.
However, at 35 years of age and like just about every player who watches the years go by, Petry isn't what he used to be, and has been a healthy scratch on more than one occasion so far in his brief tenure with the Red Wings. And for tonight's game at Little Caesars Arena against the visiting division rival Florida Panthers, Petry has been informed that he'll once again be watching rather than playing.
Justin Holl has been inserted back into the lineup, and he will be on the ice tonight as the Red Wings look to build off their 4-3 overtime victory over the New York Islanders on Monday night.

So far in the six games that Petry has played in his first campaign with the Red Wings, he's registered a pair of assists along with a -2 rating. The good news is that Petry is a professional, and knows that he wasn't signed by Detroit to play top-pairing minutes in every game of the year.
