The Detroit Red Wings have themselves another new defenseman in the ranks, as it was announced earlier today that Ann Arbor native Jeff Petry was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom as well as a conditional draft pick.

The last name will instantly sound familiar to Detroit sports fans, as it was Jeff's father Dan Petry who helped guide the Detroit Tigers to the 1984 World Series as a pitcher; he's now an analyst for the Tigers on their local broadcast station.

The elder Petry wore uniform number 46 during his time with the Tigers, and the younger Petry will be doing the same in his first year with the Red Wings:

Last year while playing with the Pittsburgh Penguins, he scored five goals with 26 assists. In 864 career NHL games, he's scored 92 goals with 261 assists.
