Earlier this week, Edmonton Oilers’ Jesse Puljujarvi told reporter Tommi Seppälä that he isn’t sure if the National Hockey League is the place for him anymore.

“Twenty games in and I have one goal. It’s sad,” Puljujarvi said in his native Finnish as translated by Seppälä. “I’ve been thinking a lot how to do things differently. Right now, I just don’t have the answer.”

“Of course I’d like to be a productive top-line player. But right now, it looks like I can’t do that in NHL. Maybe some other league.”

This prompted trade rumours to remerge in Edmonton with Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman explaining on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast that the Oilers previously attempted to move Puljujärvi but teams did not make them an offer that felt fair due to his lack of production. In 27 games this season, ahead of Friday night’s action against the Minnesota Wild, Puljujarvi has only put up a goal and six points.

However now with Puljujarvi’s recent comment, the Oilers might have no other choice but to trade him for the best possible deal they can get right now.

This could come down to the good old future considerations…

There’s always the chance Puljujarvi will snap out of it, but it might only come if he gets moved somewhere else. The trade watch is on more than ever.
