NHL insider Elliotte Friedman with the full details of each side's demands.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports today that the Winnipeg Jets and RFA defenseman Dylan Samberg are $3.5 million apart in salary arbitration filings.
Friedman reports that the Jets have filed a one year contract for $2.5 million, while Samberg's representatives have filed for a one year, $6 million contract.
From Friedman:
Assuming both sides meet in the middle ahead of a ruling, Samberg would be looking at roughly $4.25 million which, honestly, seems like an overpay to me.
I imagine that if this case does go to a ruling then Samberg would receive a deal closer to $3 million annually. The 26 year old blueliner put up a career high six goals and 20 points in 60 games for the Jets last season and helped secure their defense corps. However, he's not a top four regular and is only really expected to provide the team with some solid depth.
Thoughts, Jets fans? What's a fair deal here?
