Hellebuyck's teammates don't sound like they want him back.
The situation surrounding Winnipeg Jets star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been an ugly one to start the 2026-27 National Hockey League regular season and by the sounds of things it may be on the verge of getting even uglier.
In recent days there have been rumblings that Hellebuyck may be considering a return to his team, a move that would make sense given that Hellebuyck is losing an estimated $38,660 each day as a result of his decision not to report to the Jets this season, but along with those rumblings have been rumors that Hellebuyck won't be welcomed back in the Jets locker room.
On Saturday night, Jets captain Adam Lowry stopped short of confirming those rumors but made it clear that there was a least a hint of truth to those reports.
"If he does show up, conversations are going to have to happen," said Lowry of a potential return for Hellebuyck.
That is a sentiment that I believe will be echoed by the Jets fan base and I can't imagine that the reception Hellebuyck would receive on home ice in Winnipeg would be a pleasant one should he return. We saw fans in Detroit openly booing former Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin following his trade request earlier this summer, and that's a situation where the player in question choose to report to his team despite his trade demands.
The reception for Hellebuyck could be even worse.
