Jets coach Maurice loses it when asked “Who’s the Daddy” by Finnish media

The Winnipeg Jets and Florida Panthers are in Finland this week to play two regular season games at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki this week and… well let’s just say the local media came prepared for a show. The two games will feature two of the biggest Finnish stars in hockey with Patrik Laine of the Jets and Aleksander Barkov of the Panthers facing off against one another in their home country.

In his opening press conference with the Finnish media, Jets head coach Paul Maurice was asked a rather odd question about Laine and Barkov and the Jets coach’s reaction was pure gold.

Check out this video:

For those unable to make it out, Maurice is asked, “Do you expect Laine to show Barkov ‘Who’s the Daddy’ here in Finland?”

Maurice’s reaction is, “Whoa! Welcome to Europe, eh? I never get asked a question like that. First of all I’m not even sure what that means, I’m old. Um… I think it’ll be a great contest.”

All of this was said with Maurice’s tongue planted firmly in his cheek, of course…

The Jets are certainly hoping that Laine could prove he’s “The Daddy” while back home this week, as he has struggled to find the back of the net lately. The 20 year old sniper has just three goals and five points in 12 games so far this season. As for Barkov, he has also struggled to score with just two goals in nine games, but his six assists brings his point totals up to eight points in nine games. Suffice it to say though, the Jets’ and Panthers’ start to the season could not be much different though. The Panthers are struggling to start the campaign with just two wins in their first nine games, while the Jets are sitting more comfortably with a 7-4-1 record.
