Winnipeg Jets have gotten quite anxious ever since defenseman Josh Morrissey was held out of the third period in last night preseason contest against the Calgary Flames.

After losing Jacob Trouba, Ben Chariot and Tyler Myers to free agency, on top of the uncertainty of getting veteran blue liner Dustin Byfuglien back, he who is considering retirement, Winnipeg simply cannot afford another blow to their already decimated back end.

Head coach Paul Maurice went on to reassure everyone, explaining Morrissey left Winnipeg’s 2-0 loss to the Flames after the second period for precautionary reasons. Maurice said he was “tightening up”. He made sure to ass that Morrissey’s exit was not related to him blocking a shot earlier in the night.

The young defenseman was held pointless and logged 10:39 of ice time before leaving to the dressing room.

In 59 games for the Jets last season, 24-year-old Morrissey had six goals and 25 assists.

The Jets are back in action tonight as they take on the Edmonton Oilers. It remains to be seen what the update on Morrissey will be ahead of the contest.
