The Dallas Stars announced earlier today that they have re-signed general manager Jim Nill to a two year contract extension that ends in following the 2025-26 season.

Check it out:

"Jim has proven himself to be one of the best general managers in the NHL," Stars owner Tom Gaglardi said in a prepared statement. "He has meticulously built a team through free agency, trades and the NHL Draft that's among the best in the League, while also ensuring that the Stars are championship contenders for years to come. He'll be able to continue his vision of working toward our goal of bringing another Stanley Cup to the state of Texas."

Nill has been the Stars' GM for a remarkable 10 seasons now, amassing a record of 403-280-98 in the regular season with six Stanley Cup Playoff appearances. The Stars have been to the Western Conference Final twice and the Stanley Cup Final once under Nill's reign. He's the longest serving general manager in team history and is the reigning Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year winner.

"My family and I are grateful to Tom Gaglardi for his commitment to the organization and giving me every resource available to build this team," Nill said in a statement. "I'm fortunate to have an incredible team of individuals alongside me that have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help build our team into what it is today. I'm excited to continue my work in developing a winning culture and reaching our shared goal of winning the Stanley Cup."

Since joining the Stars after a long stint as assistant general manager to Ken Holland with the Detroit Red Wings, Nill has performed a dramatic overhaul of the team's roster and identity. Early on in his tenure he made key acquisitions in trading for the likes of Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza and Patrick Sharp. He'd continue to tinker his roster and add high end talent like Ben Bishop, Alex Radulov and Joe Pavelski in the following years. He has overseen the drafting and development of key players like Miro Heiskanen, Jake Oettinger, Ty Dellandrea and Jason Robertson. All and all it's been a good run in Dallas for Nill, I'm excited to see what the team can accomplish in the coming years.
