Former National Hockey League star Joe Pavelski finally has a championship that he can call his own.

Over the weekend, the former San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars forward traded in his skates for a set of golf clubs and took on all challengers at the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament that usually features some pretty stiff competition.

During the tournament Pavelski would show off the athleticism and competitive drive that made him a star in the National Hockey League, eventually defeating the rest of the field to raise the trophy.

Pavelski came into the last hole of the course with a commanding lead, but in spite of that he closed on strong. Pavelski would nail a walk-off eagle, finishing his tournament in spectacular fashion and leaving no doubt about who the strongest competitor at this tournament really was.

Pavelski was an incredible player during his NHL career but always felt short of his goal of becoming a Stnaley Cup champion. His 1332 games, 476 goals and 592 assists will be remembered fondly, but there is no question that Pavelski desperately wanted to add a Stanley Cup ring to that resume.

Although he never reached his goal in the NHL, it was wonderful to see him finally get his hands on a championship over the weekend and I have no doubt that there are thousands of hockey fans around the world who enjoyed the moment nearly as much as Pavelski himself.

Way to go Joe.
