One of the loudest and most prevalent rumors of the offseason may have just been entirely shut down.

Despite the fact that some of the National Hockey League's top insiders, including Darren Dreger and Bob McKenzie, had indicated their belief that Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie would be traded, it doesn't appear that will be the case.

According to a report from Mike Chambers of the Denver Post Avs general manager Joe Sakic has completely shut down those rumors indicating that the Avalanche will pay out the big dollars likely required to retain Barrie for the short-term or the long-term.

"Either way, he'll be here," said Sakic.

Both McKenzie and Dreger are rarely wrong and neither is ever prone to hyperbole, and especially in McKenzie's case he was adamant that the trade would be coming. Something major must have changed in Colorado.
