Joel Quenneville spotted at NHL GM and Coaches meeting.
The former long time National Hockey League head coach appears to be making his comeback.
It would appear as though Joel Quenneville is making his way back to the National Hockey League, this in spite of the fact that there has been no official announcement of any kind regarding his status following the fallout from the Kyle Beach incident.
This week, the long time former head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks was spotted in attendance at the NHL general manager and coaches meetings, an appearance that of course raised quite a few eyebrows. Quenneville would be a highly sought after coach if reinstated by the NHL, but it sounds like we aren't there just yet.
Quenneville was asked directly about his appearance at those meetings by Montreal Canadiens insider Eric Engels, but the former 3 time Stanley Cup champion did not give much of an answer. Instead he chose to deflect, perhaps feeling that it wasn't yet appropriate for him to make a public comment on the matter.
"It’s not the right time," said Quenneville when asked about his appearance at the meetings.
Quenneville left the NHL in disgrace following a damning investigation into an incident involving former Chicago Blackhawks prospect Kyle Beach, and many questioned whether or not he would ever be allowed to return to the NHL at all. Although it has not been officially announced, his appearance at these meetings would appear to indicate that he is very close to being declared eligible to return.
Further lending credibility to this theory is the fact that former Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman was also in attendance, an indication that both men were there with the goal of being reinstated by the NHL and commissioner Gary Bettman.
