The Toronto Maple Leafs are hoping that their revamped roster will help them put the failures of the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season behind them, but they will have to start the season on the back foot.

We already know that veteran Maple Leafs forward Max Domi will miss the start of the season after some truly horrible news over the summer, and on Monday Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka confirmed that forward Dakota Joshua would also miss significant time to start the 2026-27 regular season.

Although there was no official timeline given for Joshua's return, Chayka did confirm that a core muscle injury was at issue here and that Joshua would be out for more than just a few games.

"Call it week-to-week," said Chayka as per Mark Masters.

Joshua will be returning for what would be his second season with the Maple Leafs, he had 10 goals and 8 assists for 18 points over 55 games last season in what was an underwhelming season for Joshua. That was the case for many Maple Leafs last season under head coach Craig Berube however so he could very well be due for a bounce back this season when he gets healthy.
