John Hynes makes a tough call as Wild make multiple changes before Game 3.
The Minnesota Wild have been put in a tough position with both of their goaltenders coming off of ugly losses through the first two games of their second round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche.
That puts head coach John Hynes in a difficult position heading into Game 3 of that series, but on Saturday the Wild bench boss confirmed that he would be turning back to Jesper Wallstedt after a shaky performance from Filip Gustavsson in what was his first game in nearly a month.
Gustavsson faced just 22 shots in Game 2 against he Avalanche but in spite of that he would allow 4 goals for a .818 save percentage and a 4.20 goals against average.
Wallstedt 's save percentage was even worse in Game 1, a .810, but Wallstedt was facing a barrage of shots all night with 42 shots fired in his direction in that game.
Unfortunately for the Wild their uphill battle will continue in this series with Hynes revealing that veteran forward Joel Eriksson Ek will once again be forced to the sidelines due to an injury, with Eriksson Ek having yet to appear in a single game thus far in this series. The Wild are already down 2-0 in this series and it is difficult to envision them mounting a comeback if Eriksson Ek remains out of the lineup.
Hynes also announced that Jeff Petry will sit tonight for Game 3 with Zach Bogosian returning to the lineup for what will be his 8th game of these playoffs.
