John Scott: The NHL want to change its voting system.

After John Scott was voted as a captain for the All-Star game, the NHL as announced that it will change its voting system.

Elliot Friedman from Sportsnet admitted that the NHL was looking to limit the choice of players the fan could vote for:

"You're going to see a situation where the League decides if it’s going to be that the fans just have a portion of the vote – not all of the captaincy votes – or could it just be that there's a list online that you're going to be able to vote from. I think it’s pretty safe to say we're not going to see the same kind of all out voting that we saw this year and what it resulted in with the captaincies."

John Scott's being voted for the All-Star game is the NHL's nightmare, but it will certainly help the league to learn from its mistakes. The All-Star game is supposed to attract attention to the league and an occasion for the NHL to engage with its fanbase, but it clearly did not go as planned.

The NHL has to go back to the drawing boards and ask themselves what will engage the fans the best.
