John Tortorella basically asks to get fired in last night’s press conference!
He is cooked. This is what he had to say after the 7-2 blowout loss to the Maple Leafs. Get it all below:
Simply put, the Philadelphia Flyers were dominated by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. After hearing what head coach John Tortorella had to say after the game, the more accurate sentence would be that Philadelphia was abandoned by their own bench boss.
Torts is the one saying it. In his post-game presser, Tortorella basically seemed to beg Flyers’ management to fire him now when he made the statement:
“This falls on me. I’m not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season, where we’re at right now. But I have to do a better job. So this falls on me, getting the team prepared to play the proper way until we get to the end.”
I have to admit this is kinda shocking to hear this level of honesty from an NHL coach…
The Flyers are no longer the Broad Street Bullies and will miss the Stanley Cup playoffs for the fifth year in a row.
They need a coach that can turn things around. And Tortorella has made it clear that he’s not the right guy for the job. Prior to the game however, Torts had made statements that he’s changed his approach to the team.
“There’s nothing coming for us after April 17th … I just want us to concentrate on it and try to get there. So, I’ve changed my coaching. I’ve changed the style of play based on our lineup. So, we’re all trying to do it with dignity, do it the right way, and try to get to the end. And then we’ll see where we go as an organization after.”
But during last night’s game, it just felt like Torts had given up. And he basically confirmed it in the presser right after.
