Oh boy…
In the past few days, insider Frank Seravalli reported an unexpected trade rumor involving a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. According to Seravalli, forward Joel Farabee is the surprise trade bait on the board as sources revealed that his camp has voiced their displeasure to the Flyers as to how this season has unfolded under coach John Tortorella.
On Friday, the fiery head coach reacted to the unexpected trade rumour with his usual angst.
“This is news to me. Is his agent popping off that he’s pissed off? He should shut up,” Torts said per Jordan Hall.
Seravalli believes a potential trade is more likely to take place during the offseason than prior to March 3rd. He reports that the situations boiled over when Tortorella decided to sit Farabee against the Calgary Flames on Feb. 20 after just 3:52 of ice time and a demotion to the fourth line.
It wasn’t the first time Torts had voiced his displeasure with Farabee. In mid-December, both men openly stated that despite undergoing disc replacement surgery over the offseason, the injury should no longer affect his performance.
“I’m not going to let him hide behind his injury, I think it’s plenty of time to get through that. I just think he has been inconsistent,” Tortorella had said back then.
As of now, there is no formal trade request made from Farabee’s camp, but since it appears to be clear that Tortorella will stick around for the near future, maybe Farabee will indeed hand in his official trade demand…
