John Tortorella guarantees a win in Game 6 on Sunday night

John Tortorella's tenure behind the Vegas Golden Knights bench has been nothing short of remarkable, but following last night's disappointing Game 5 loss in the Stanley Cup Final, the veteran coach suddenly finds himself facing the biggest challenge of his brief stint in Las Vegas.

When the Golden Knights made the stunning decision to replace Bruce Cassidy with Tortorella late in the regular season, many around the hockey world viewed the move as a desperate gamble. Tortorella had been out of coaching and working in television, while Vegas appeared destined for another postseason disappointment. Instead, the fiery bench boss immediately transformed the team's identity and helped guide the Golden Knights on an improbable run all the way to the Stanley Cup Final.

However, Game 5 exposed some of the concerns that have followed Tortorella throughout his coaching career. Vegas has now squandered a 2-1 series and are down 3-2 with the possibility of ending our their season in losing fashion in Game 6 on Sunday evening.

Not so fast though, warns Torts.

The Golden Knights aren't dead yet.

In fact, Tortorella went so far as to guarantee a victory in Game 6 on home ice, telling the media "We'll be back here (in Carolina for Game 7)."

Honestly... I'd love to see it.

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, it doesn't get any better than that.

To Tortorella's credit, Vegas remains in a far better position than anyone could have reasonably expected when he arrived in March. The fact that the Golden Knights are still competing for the Stanley Cup is a testament to the culture and structure he has instilled in a remarkably short period of time. Yet the standards are different now. Moral victories no longer matter when a championship is within reach.

With the series now tied and momentum shifting toward Carolina, Tortorella's legacy in Vegas may ultimately be determined by what happens next. His coaching change sparked one of the most surprising turnarounds in recent NHL history, but if the Golden Knights are going to finish the job, they will need their veteran coach to make the adjustments that helped get them here in the first place. The honeymoon period is over. Now comes the hard part.
