Not messing around, Torts!
Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella does not have time for silly questions or the All-Star Game. And he especially does not want to waste time on the past.
That’s why on Thursday, it was revealed that Tortorella took the iPads away from the Flyers bench so that the players can “just worry about their next shift.”
As fans have seen in pretty much every single NHL game for the past few seasons, players can take one of the iPads available at the bench to review a play or see what went wrong.
However, Torts doesn’t want his players to worry about what happened - nothing you can do about it anymore. He wants his players to focus on the next shift, and that means no iPads for you!
Last season during the playoff, New York Rangers star forward Chris Kreider went viral when he grabbed an iPad out of Mika Zibanejad’s hands and smashed it to the ground in the heated series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
There is no way iPads could survive if Tortorella is the one throwing them, and so it is probably best for the team if they are removed from the bench.
That’s a new unorthodox way Torts is going about to coach his players. Maybe that’s the way to play when you want a successful retool under Torts, who said this on Friday:
“I don’t give a flying shit about how I’m perceived,” Torts said about iPad ban.
