To say that John Tortorella's tenure as the Canucks head coach was an unmitigated disaster might be underselling just how bad it was. On Friday the former head coach made an appearance on Tampa's 620 WDAE radio station and opened up about his time in
“I don’t think I did the job for our team in the second half [of the season] with our consistency, and I think that’s what cost me my job,” said Tortorella during the interview. “We couldn’t stop the losing streaks. We needed to win a couple games within those areas." “Quite honestly, I deserved to be fired after that second half of the year.”It's hard to say if this is genuine regret from Tortorella, or just an attempt to save some face in order to hopefully find an owner crazy enough to give another NHL coaching job, but either way it's refreshing to hear him admit to the fact that he was a horrible coach. Although it does nothing to change the fact that he was fired during the first year of a five year deal because of incidents like this one.
