Johnny Gaudreau looking at proactive steps to protect his hands in the future.

If the NHL won't protect him he's going to do it himself.

Calgary Flames star forward Johnny Gaudreau made an appeal to the on-ice officials to protect his hands, but they failed to do so and as a result he will now miss the next six weeks of the National Hockey League season.

Instead of complaining or moping however Gaudreau is reportedly now using his time off to look for proactive ways that he can protect his own hands, presumably to avoid an event like the game against the Minnesota Wild that saw him slashed over 20 times.

Sportsnet's Pat Steinberg is reporting that Gaudreau is looking at new gloves that would provide more padding and protection for his hands, although obviously that comes with it's own concerns. Additional padding and protection could result in limited flexibility for his hands, and considering the kind of player Johnny Gaudreau is that may be a bigger deal than it sounds like.

No word yet on what brand of gloves Gaudreau is looking into just yet.
