Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith, surprises Sean Monahan with the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy

A beautiful and emotional moment. You just know that Johnny is looking down smiling.

Earlier today the NHL released an emotional video segment of Meredith Gaudreau, the wife of Johnny Gaudreau, surprising Johnny's former teammate Sean Monahan with the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.

Monahan, a forward on the Columbus Blue Jackets and long-time friend and teammate with Gaudreau during their time with the Calgary Flames, was named a finalist for the award last month alongside Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury and Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog. The annual award is given to “to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey,” and is named in honor of the late Bill Masterton who died as a result off an injury sustained in 1968.

Monahan showed tremendous perseverance this past season following the death of Johnny. There's no denying that.

I mean, who can forget Monahan pointing to the heavens after scoring in the game in which the Blue Jackets paid tribute to Johnny and the Gaudreau family?

Monahan is a worthy winner of this award and, as stated in the video below, you just know that Johnny is looking down with pride on his former friend and teammate.

Check out the video of the surprise moment and the emotional reaction below:
