The hockey world was shocked by the deal that went down this month.
The hockey world was absolutely set ablaze (no pun) earlier this month when the Calgary Flames acquired both Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar from the Florida Panthers in exchange for gritty and scoring forward Matthew Tkachuk; the latter was immediately inked to a massive contract extension by the Panthers, while both Huberdeau and Weegar are pending unrestricted free agents next summer.
He's picked his jersey number that he'll be wearing this year, and he let Flames fans know about it in a personalized video message posted to Twitter:
"Hey Flames fans, Huby here. Just want to let you all know that I picked my number for the year, I can't wait to wear No. 10 in front of the C of Red This season! See you guys soon."
And for Flames fans who are hoping to see their prize acquisition stay playing in front of the C of Red long term, the good news is that he sounded open to inking an extension.
“It’s something I’m open about,” Huberdeau said via Zoom as he and MacKenzie Weegar were introduced by the Calgary Flames on Monday. “They’re the one that traded for me. That means they want me.
“You want to play for a team that wants you — that’s all I want.”
