Jonathan Huberdeau not happy with trade to Calgary.

Huberdeau is not a happy camper.

On Friday night we saw what may have been the biggest trade of the National Hockey League's salary cap era. A truly blockbuster trade deal between the Florida Panthers and the Calgary Flames that, in part, saw star forward Jonathan Huberdeau and Matthew Tkachuk swapping teams with one another after they were both coming off of career seasons.

Barring any potential catastrophes it seems likely that it will be many years before we can properly asses who won this trade, but we can already tell you that at least one of the players involved in this deal isn't thrilled about how things have turned out.

According to the latest which comes courtesy of Florida Panthers reporter David Dwork, former Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau is reportedly unhappy with how things played out. Dwork reports that Huberdeau may have been blindsided by the deal after some informal contract talks had been held between the Panthers and his agent, Allan Walsh, with the Huberdeau camp reportedly expecting an offer to be forthcoming. That offer would never come though, and instead the next time Huberdeau and his representation heard from the Florida Panthers it was to notify them of a trade.

It's not hard to see why Huberdeau would be concerned about the trade. From a purely financial perspective, Huberdeau will see a much more significant portion of his income taxed in Calgary than he would have in Florida. That's before we even consider the costs associated with uprooting his life from Florida, the only NHL city he has ever played in, to Calgary which is thousands of miles away.

He is also leaving the team that had the best regular season record in all of hockey last season, which just so happened to coincide with his best season as an NHL pro, and that can't be easy either in spite of the fact that the Flames were also tremendously successful during the course of this most recent NHL regular season.

Huberdeau being unhappy is likely not a good thing for the Flames who will only have him under contract for a single season before he can become an unrestricted free agent.
