Jonathan Quick on waivers?!

Whoa!

The New York Rangers announced this morning that they have recalled goaltender Dylan Garand from the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack.

Check it out:

Why's this a big deal, you might be asking?

Well, the Rangers of course already have Igor Shesterkin as their uncontested starter, but it was expected that veteran Jonathan Quick would back up Shesterkin this season. And now... well... how does Garand factor into things?

As you might imagine, Rangers fans are waiting for the fallout if and when the team demotes Quick to the AHL. To be fair, Garand has outplayed Quick for most of the pre-season and is probably the team's best bet as a backup option. Sending Quick to the AHL though would result in him having to go on waivers, which will be interesting to say the least. I can't imagine that Quick passes through waivers given the need for back up goaltenders around the league. You don't think the Tampa Bay Lightning would put in a claim on a three time Stanley Cup champion to help fill in for Andrei Vasilevsky? Seems like a match made in heaven.

Stay tuned.
