Joonas Donskoi admits his NHL career may be over.

A sad update from the NHL forward.

The Seattle Kraken are in the middle of their best season since joining the National Hockey League as it's newest expansion franchise, but in spite of the fact that everything seems to be going pretty well for the Kraken they have just been hit with some terrible sounding news.

Kraken forward Joonas Donskoi recently participated in an interview with Rahen Seuduin his native Finnish and it was during this interview that he revealed his career is now in jeopardy. According to Donskoi's own words, the concussion he suffered during the preseason has left him with debilitating symptoms for many months now and he is now asking serious questions about what that could mean for his future outside of the sport of hockey.

"Yes, it always scares and makes you think, especially when there are many of them (concussions)," admitted Donskoi. "You always have to think, since I'm a family man, and I should be a functional father for many more decades. Of course, decisions will be made before then about how to continue this."

To be clear it does not sound like Donskoi has made up his mind about hanging up his skates for good just yet, telling Rahen Seudu that he expects to consult with several doctors before making a final decision in this regard. Nonetheless, the mere fact that the 30 year old NHL veteran is considering such a drastic move speaks to how serious his concussion symptoms have become and I genuinely hope that he makes the right decision for himself, his family, and his longterm health.

If this is indeed the end, Donskoi will end his career with 474 career NHL games over which he collected 80 goals and an additional 128 assists for a career total of 208 points. All of those totals were accumulated over 4 seasons as a San Jose Shark, a pair of seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, and potentially his final season as a member of the Seattle Kraken during the 2021-22 NHL regular season.
