Joonas Korpisalo signs 5 year deal worth $20 million.
Joonas Korpisalo has now officially departed the Los Angeles Kings and has now signed on with a new team.
Joonas Korpisalo has cashed in big time.
According to an official announcement from the Ottawa Senators, the organization has come to terms with Korpisalo on a new 5 year contract that will see the goaltender earn a total of $20 million over the full length of the deal. That works out to an average annual value and salary cap hit of $4 million per season, a reasonable number considering Joonas Korpisalo looked very solid closing out the regular season for the Los Angeles Kings.
Korpisalo appeared in 28 regular season games for the Columbus Blue Jackets prior to being traded, recording a 3.13 goals against average and a .913 save percentage with that team, but his numbers improved dramatically over 11 games with the Kings in which he recorded a 2.13 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.
The Senators are hoping they will be getting the same player come next season, and this move is just one more sign that this organization believes their young core is ready to take the next step.
