A terrible showing for Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll at the World Championship.
It was a tough season in Toronto for Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll who got off to a slow start due to injuries and finished the campaign with the worst statistical season of his career in the National Hockey League so far.
That's why when Woll was asked to represent his country at the International Ice Hockey Federation's World Championship of hockey it made all the sense in the world for the Leafs netminder to join Team USA and get a temporary change of scenery.
Unfortunately for Woll his misfortunes have followed him to the international stage with the Maple Leafs goaltender unceremoniously yanked from the net on Monday during a game against Finland.
It was a terrible outing for Woll who would finish his day after giving up 5 goals on just 9 shots from the Finnish squad, coughing up 3 goals on the first 7 shots of the game and following that up by giving up 2 goals on just 2 shots to start the second period.
It would be Finland's Saku Maenalanen that would eventually chase Woll from the net, with the former NHL forward tipping the puck in front of the net. While Woll did manage to get a piece of the deflection, it would squeeze through him and by that point Team USA head coach Don Granato had seen enough and made the swap to Calgary Flames goaltender Devin Cooley.
