Josh Anderson pays a heavy price for hitting Ryan McDonagh from behind.
You might call this one an unfortunate dose of karma for Montreal Canadiens veteran forward Josh Anderson.
On Sunday night, Anderson and the Canadiens faced off against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 of their opening round Stanley Cup playoff series but unfortunately for Anderson his night would come to an early end.
In the opening seconds of the game's second period, Anderson would line up Lightning veteran defenseman Ryan McDonagh for a big hit in spite of the fact that he could see McDonagh's numbers all the way. In spite of that Anderson would lean heavily into the hit, slamming into McDonagh from behind, earning himself a boarding penalty in the process.
Anderson would never serve the penalty however as the moment the officials arm went up, Anderson himself went down. As McDonagh went crashing to the ice, Anderson's legs would become tangled up in McDonagh's and Anderson's ankle appeared to bend at a nasty angle.
Anderson remained down on the ice for several moments before eventually making his way back to his feet, but he would immediately leave the game and has yet to return.
Update: Anderson is back in the game.
