After a ten year NHL career journeyman defenseman Doug Janik is hanging up his skates and moving on to the next phase of his career.

His retirement was made official in an announcement from the Airzona Coyotes who announced that Janik will now join their organization as an assistant coach.

The 35-year-old Janik begins his coaching career after 14 seasons in professional hockey. The Agawam, MA native recorded 5-15-20 and 40 penalty minutes (PIM) in 29 games with Caldaro SG (Italy) in 2014-15.

The former defenseman was drafted by the Sabres in the second round (55th overall) in the 1999 Entry Draft. He registered 3-16-19 and 154 PIM in 190 career NHL games with the Sabres, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings.

Janik never made a major impact on the ice at the NHL level, but perhaps his experience and wisdom can help guide the next egenration of Arizona Coyotes players.
