The Rangers' captain is officially checked out and doesn't give a damn.
The JT Miller Experience in NYC isn't going quite to plan.
Miller, acquired in a blockbuster trade from the Vancouver Canucks last January, was named team captain prior to the start of this season and already looks checked out mentally.
He is giving up on plays, displaying poor body language and now is brushing off his captain's duties in post-game media availability. Ask Canucks fans though and they'll tell you this isn't anything new.
As the Rangers continue to drop in the standings, Miller's comportment continues to deteriorate. Like I say, he's giving up on plays and just displaying the worst body language you could imagine from a team captain.
Last night after another brutal loss, this time to the visiting Seattle Kraken, Miller had literally no words for his team's poor performance on home ice.
When asked by a reporter what happened in last night's game after the 1st period, a despondent Miller replied simply, "I don't know to say. We're going to try and go have a good practice tomorrow and get ready for the next game. I don't know. I'm sorry. I don't know."
Yeesh... how checked out can you be?
Personally, as a long time Canucks follower I could always tell that Miller had a little bit this in him. When the going gets tough, Miller tends to check out and withdraw into himself. It's ironic that fans see him as some sort of fiery leader when the reality is that he tends to shrink if things aren't going his way.
When he's clicking though and the team is winning, Miller is a fantastic player and a driver of play. When things aren't going well though... well... that's when you get this version of the JT Miller Experience.
