Juraj Slafkovsky appears to select his jersey number.
The first overall pick in the draft is about to sell a lot of jerseys.
Prior to this week 18 year old Slovakian forward Juraj Slafkovsky was a relatively unknown player in the city of Montreal, barring those that may have seen his dominant MVP performance at the most recent International Ice Hockey Federation's World Championship of Hockey, but after what was a spectacular 2022 National Hockey League Entry Draft he has quickly exploded in popularity in that city.
I suspect it is only a matter of time before Slafkovsky's jersey becomes one of the top selling items in the NHL, and on Saturday we got some information regarding what number he might be wearing in the NHL when the Montreal Canadiens released some details regarding their development camp. That camp will be held from the 10th to the 13th and will feature Slafkovsky as well as a variety of other young players.
On the Canadiens' official development camp roster, which can be seen here, we can see that Slafkovsky is slated to wear #60 which would reflect the number he wore while playing for TPS Turku of the Finnish Elite League in his first and only season as a professional.
Slafkovsky could of course choose a different number when he eventually plays in the NHL, for example he wore #20 at the aforementioned World Championship, but he does seem to have an affinity for the #60 in particular.
