UPDATE: The Edmonton Oilers have claimed forward Kasperi Kapanen off of waivers from the St. Louis Blues.
Read below for our earlier report on Kapanen, published yesterday when he was placed on waivers by the Blues.
This just in, the St. Louis Blues have placed 28 year old forward Kasperi Kapanen on waivers today.
Kapanen is on a one year, $1 million deal with the Blues and will be assigned to the team's AHL affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds should he clear waivers tomorrow afternoon.
He has just one goal in 10 games with the Blues this season and has been a frequent healthy scratch from the lineup. He was claimed off of waivers by the Blues from the Penguins back in 2022-23 and has failed to grab ahold of a permanent roster spot with the team in the time since.
While he has great speed, Kapanen has never really fulfilled on the promise he showed as a youngster with the Toronto Maple Leafs early on in his career. Still, that didn't prevent former Leafs GM Kyle Dubas from awarding Kapanen with a three year, $9.6 million contract back in 2019.
