Kevin Bieksa calls out the officiating in Game 3.
The former NHL defenseman took issue with a penalty call in second period of Game 3 between the Maple Leafs and Panthers.
There was some controversy regarding the officiating coming into Game 3 between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs, and now a former NHL defenseman is calling out those very same officials.
On Sunday night, former NHL defenseman Kevin Bieksa called out the officiating in Game 3 during a segment that aired during the second intermission on Hockey Night in Canada. Bieksa took issue with an interference call that was made against Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly, after Rielly got tangled up with Panthers forward Anthony Duclair.
"It wasn't a good call," said Bieksa matter of factly. "They are gonna kind of run into each other and they are jostling for position on the backcheck. I get that there is a bit of a left-hand reach, but Rielly is entitled to this ice as much as Duclair."
Bieksa seemed especially frustrated given some of the plays that had not resulted in penalties throughout the course of Game 3, and he made no effort to hide his disgust.
"I just think with the way this game has been called, it's been so tight, you can't call that a penalty," stated Bieksa. "There's only been two penalties now in the game and that's one of them? Eugh! C'mon man!"
