One of the Kontinental Hockey League's top stars is reportedly on his way to the National Hockey League.

According to a report from Russian hockey insider Igor Eronko of Sports Express, goaltender Ilya Sorokin will be signing his first ever National Hockey League contract in the not too distant future. Eronko reports that Sorokin has rebuffed offers from his current team CSKA Moscow, one of the premier organizations in the KHL, and is now set to sign with the New York Islanders. Although Sorokin has not yet signed with the Islanders the move is expected to take place following the 30th of April, the date which will mark the end of Sorokin's KHL contract.

This is tremendous news for the New York Islanders organization who will now be getting one of the premiere goaltenders in the world added to their roster in short order. For those of you unfamiliar with Sorokin he has been a dominant force in the KHL over the past 4 seasons, never finishing a full season with a save percentage lower than .931. In fact he has appeared in 40 regular season games in each of the last two seasons posting a .935 and .940 save percentage respectively. His performance only improved in the playoffs, although they were cut short, where he recorded an outstanding 9.73 goals against average and .966 save percentage over 4 playoff games.

There is no doubt that Sorokin is a star in the making, it only remains to be seen if the 24 year old Russian star will be able to adapt to North America.
