Kiefer Sherwood might be headed to his third team in a single season.
Veteran National Hockey League forward Kiefer Sherwood has barely unpacked his bags after arriving in San Jose following a trade from his former team, the Vancouver Canucks, but it sounds like he may soon have to pack up those bags one more time before the upcoming NHL trade deadline.
A very interesting report from NHL insider Pierre LeBrun has now revealed that the San Jose Sharks may be feeling a little buyers remorse after giving up a pair of second round draft picks to acquire Sherwood earlier this season. The Sharks were of course looking to sign the pending unrestricted free agent to a new contract, but according to LeBrun things did not go according to plan.
Whatever the case, I get the sense that the first contract-extension conversation was a real wires-crossed moment as far as expectations from both sides.
The belief now is that, should the two sides remain far apart on a new deal, Sherwood is likely to be moved a second time this season before the Sharks are left empty handed with a player walking to unrestricted free agency.
Sherwood hasn't had much time to get acclimated to the Sharks with only 2 games under his belt since joining the franchise and it seems likely that any suitors would be teams that previously expressed interest in acquiring him from the Canucks. Whether or not the Sharks will be able to recoup their two second round picks however remains to be seen.
