Kirill Kaprizov sets a new Minnesota Wild record.

Another feather in his cap.

The Minnesota Wild were criticized by some when they gave Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov, a relatively unproven player in the National Hockey League at the time, one of the richest contracts in the sport, but in the very first year of that contract extension he seems to be paying off.

On Saturday night Kaprizov cemented his place in Minnesota Wild history when he set a franchise record for points in a single season by picking up his 84th point of this regular season. That number ranks him above any other player in the history of the Wild franchise, surpassing the record that had been previously set by Marian Gaborik all the way back during the 2007 - 2008 regular season where he registered 83 points.

Kaprizov has accomplished the milestone in impressive fashion this season, scoring 38 goals and adding 46 assists for a combined total of 84 points through 66 games thus far. That means that Kaprizov is likely to extend the record in the coming days and weeks that will close out the regular season, and when you consider how long it took to pass Gaborik's previous mark this could end up being a record he holds onto to for quite some time.
