On Friday morning, Shane Wright is still a member of the Seattle Kraken. Last night, he was back in the lineup after missing several games as a healthy scratch. He finally got to collect more ice time, playing close to 14 minutes last night. He did not record a point in a 4-0 win over the Minnesota Wild.

There has to be a lot of pressure on the rookie forward’s shoulders, especially since he landed fourth overall at the latest draft instead of first, with the Montreal Canadiens, as many had projected.

Insiders have been arguing for weeks that Wright should be sent back to the OHL where he would get more ice time and the opportunity to develop even more to become the real menace he is supposed to be, however, the Kraken seems adamant to keep him.

And on Thursday night’s Insider Trading on TSN, Darren Dreger confirmed what most of us feared. The Kraken has reportedly decided on Wright’s fate, though it remains confusing.

“It’s very likely he’s going to stay with the Kraken. Now, here’s an interesting sidebar to this story because there is a clause inside the agreement between the NHL and the CHL that allows junior-eligible players like Shane Wright to be loaned to the American Hockey League. Now, to qualify, Wright would have to be a healthy scratch in the NHL for five straight games. He can only be loaned once to the AHL and can only stay for a maximum of 14 days. So, I believe this is something that the Kraken are considering and they’re also looking at loaning him to Canada for the World Juniors.”

And so, there is a chance that the Shane Wright watch will continue…
