Kraken sign 21 year old free agent defenseman on Saturday.
The latest addition to the Kraken's roster.
The Seattle Kraken have already concluded their first season in the National Hockey League and are currently waiting on the sidelines for the start of next season as the Stanley Cup playoffs roll along. Rather than sitting idle though it would appear that the Kraken's front office has been busy scouting the globe for talent to add to their roster ahead of next season.
On Saturday, the Kraken announced that they had signed 21 year old undrafted Finnish defenseman Peetro Seppala who previously played professionally for the Finnish Elite League's KooKoo Kouvola. The Kraken announced that Seppala has been signed to a 2 year contract that will carry an average annual value and salary cap hit of $762,500 per season, one that will kick in at the start of the 2022 - 2023 NHL regular season.
Seppala has spent the last 5 seasons of his hockey career with the aforementioned KooKoo Kouvola but in this most recent campaign his offensive upside appeared to really blossom and that is no doubt what put him on the radar for teams in the National Hockey League. In his most recent campaign he had 8 goals and 21 assists for a total of 30 points over 57 games and he finished the season with a plus minus rating of +18.
Seattle Kraken general manager Ron Francis released a short statement regarding the addition of Seppala on SAturday.
"Peetro is a young defenseman who skates well and has an offensive upside," said Francis via the Kraken's official website. "He's proven himself in the highest ranks in Finland, and we're excited to be adding him to our organization."
Although the Kraken did not specify this would appear to be a one way contract which would mean that you should expect to see Seppala at training camp come the start of next season, with the Kraken likely intending to give him every opportunity to compete for a spot on their roster. With veteran defenseman Derrick Pouliot on an expiring contract and even the decision to trade former Kraken captain Mark Giordano ahead of the NHL's trade deadline, there could very well be some spots up for grabs.
