Kris Knoblauch shares concerning update ahead of Game 3.
The Oilers may be without one of their top forwards for Game 3 on Monday.
The Edmonton Oilers are already without forward Zach Hyman for the entirety of the Stanley Cup Final and now it sounds like they may be down yet another forward when it comes to Game 3 of the series.
On Sunday, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch spoke to the media and shared a rather concerning update on the status of forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, a status that appears to be up in the air for Game 3.
Concern around Nugent-Hopkins began earlier today when he was notably absent from practice as his other teammates hit the ice for a morning skate. Nugent-Hopkins would not appear during the morning skate and it seems there are real questions about his availability for Game 3.
Knoblauch did not go into any great detail regarding what is ailing Nugent-Hopkins but he also didn't deny that there were issues. Knoblauch admitted flatly that Nugent-Hopkins will be a game time decision for Monday's game in Florida, a potentially huge blow to the Oilers in this series.
Nugent-Hopkins has been an extremely effective player for the Oilers in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and that is putting it mildly, recording a point per game with 5 goals and 13 assists for 18 points in 18 playoff games. Losing him would be devastating at the very best of times, but with Zach Hyman already out of the lineup it would be fair to say that Nugent-Hopkins sitting out would leave the Oilers forward group decimated for the biggest games of the year.
We likely won't get a clearer picture regarding Nugent-Hopkins until closer to game time tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates.
