Sunday came with bad news on the goaltending front for the Edmonton Oilers, bad news they really can't afford.

Prior to facing off against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday night, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch met with members of the media to discuss his lineup. It was during that period that he was asked to provide an update on injured goaltender Tristan Jarry, with the news from Knoblauch indicating that the Oilers will be without Jarry for some time.

"Nothing too specific," began Knoblauch. "He's going to be out for a couple of weeks."

Knoblauch did not provide a timeline for Jarry's return other than to say that it won't be any time before the turn of the calendar year.

"We won't see him until the New Year at some point and that's it," said Knoblauch putting an end to that line of questions.

The Oilers made a surprise move this season when they dealt goaltender Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak and a second round pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Jarry and forward Samuel Poulin. The idea was of course to improve their goaltending position but Jarry won't be doing that as long as he remains sidelined due to injury.

Combined with the fact that Jarry has looked very mediocre in the 3 appearances he has made for the Oilers, with a 3.08 goals against average and a .887 save percentage, and the early returns aren't looking great for the Oilers.
