Kuznetsov has his KHL contract terminated amidst rumors of an NHL return
A reunion with Ovi in Washington!?
Former NHLer Evgeny Kuznetsov has had his four year contract with SKA St. Petersburg terminated.
The 32 year old forward managed 13 goals and 40 points in 45 games for St. Petersburg this season... not bad. Not bad at all.
So this begs the question, "What gives?"
What happened here?
Is Kuznetsov planning a return to the NHL?
It's worth noting that his St. Petersburg teammate Ivan Demidov signed with the Montreal Canadiens earlier today. Could there be something there? The difference, of course, is that if Kuznetsov were to sign with an NHL team right now he wouldn't be eligible to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Because Demidov was included on the Canadiens' reserve list, he's eligible to join the team immediately. That wouldn't be the case with Kuznetsov, regardless of which NHL team signed him.
There are also rumors that he could be planning a return to the Washington Capitals where he'd be reunited with his good friend Alex Ovechkin.
Thoughts, Caps fans? Would you welcome Kuzy back?
