Former 11th overall pick Kyle Beach has revealed that he is in fact "John Doe" from the independent investigation into the Chicago Blackhawks' cover up of an alleged sexual assault scandal.
Beach conducted a one on one interview with TSN's Rick Westhead on Sportscentre this evening where he revealed his identity and spoke eloquently about what he has endured.
The entire interview can be watched here:
The Blackhawks are alleged to have covered up a sexual abuse scandal from within the organization after Beach came forward with allegations that video coach Brad Aldrich sexual assaulted him during the 2010 season. Beach is currently suing the team for their involvement in the alleged crime.
Longtime Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman resigned from his position as a result of yesterday's findings and team owner Rocky Wirtz announced that anyone still in the organization from the time of the alleged assault would be dismissed. Former Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville, now with the Florida Panthers, and then-Blackhawks assistant GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, now with the Winnipeg Jets, have also been implicated in the alleged cover-up.
It's worth noting that because the Blackhawks made the 109 page independent investigation public that many fans began to speculate on Beach's identity before he ultimately revealed it this evening. The report clearly identifies the player as being 20 years old, being one of the team's top prospects at the AHL level and being a prominent fighter and/or enforcer. Hundreds of fans correctly identified Beach as being the only member of the team's roster to meet this criteria.
Now, whether because he felt pressure to come forward as a result of Internet sleuths or because he's coming forward on his own volition, the truth is out there. Kyle Beach is the victim and I personally applaud this man and his strength for coming forward and revealing his identity. He's been abused so much already and he's sat silent for 11 years. Hopefully now that the cards are all on the table he can begin the healing process and put this horrific chapter of his life in the past. Godspeed, Kyle Beach.
