On Tuesday, reports from around Pittsburgh, including one by local radio station 105,9 The X, stated that former Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas was finalizing a deal to take the vacant spot as general manager for the Penguins. However, insider Frank Seravalli has denied the report and even stated that Dubas has turned down the offer made by the Penguins.

“I saw the report that Kyle Dubas is closing in on a contract with Pittsburgh… that goes against everything I’ve heard. There’s been lots of smoke in the last 24 hours that Kyle Dubas has, in fact, turned down Pittsburgh. I’m not comfortable reporting it yet.”

Seravalli added that the former Leafs general manager is awaiting the outcome of the sale process for the Ottawa Senators, another organization he has been linked with in recent speculation. However, GM Pierre Dorion remains in charge in Ottawa until further notice. Also, it is believed that the Penguins’ owners have resumed discussions with other candidates vying to fill the position previously occupied by Ron Hextall.

Earlier this week, Sportsnet reporter Elliotte Friedman reported that Pittsburgh was awaiting a response from Dubas, who was let go by the Leafs earlier this month after serving as GM since 2018. Some insiders pointed out that he had visited the Penguins facilities, accompanied by captain Sidney Crosby.

Hextall was fired at the end of the season after a disastrous tenure and missing the playoffs for the first time in more than 16 years…

However, it sounds like Dubas won’t be the Penguins’ new GM.
