Things have been falling apart for the Winnipeg Jets who’ve lost key players on the back end in Tyler Myers, Brandon Tanev and Jacob Trouba already this summer.

It is now believed that they could eventually lose out up front as Patrik Laine might be actively looking for a way out of Winnipeg.

On the 31 Thoughts Podcast with Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman, which was released last night, the insiders tackled the ongoing issues in Winnipeg as RFAs forwards Laine and Kyle Connor remain unsigned.

Marek wondered if the Jets’ bounce back for the upcoming season fell on Laine’s shoulders and Friedman went on to explain that the young forward might demand a shorter bridge contract to move on more easily from Winnipeg.

“Laine is a whole big discussion right now because he’s the one guy who seems to want a short bridge (contract) of all these guys.  He didn’t leave happy last year and we’ve talked about this, some of that was his own fault, he wasn’t as good as he could be and I think he chafed under some of the leadership there.  The guys at the top of that food chain are hard driving guys.  They expect you to buy into the program and I think that they felt he didn’t buy in enough and I think he felt that some of the things that they wanted were ridiculous.  So you got to bridge that too.”

This goes hand in hand with was The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta reported last month, speculating that Laine wanted out of Winnipeg and could seek a trade or a short deal.

All I can say that the moment is that fans in Winnipeg will want  him to get whatever he wants so the Jets have a chance to bounce back and become a true contender.

Then, maybe Laine will be convinced to stay and be the face of the franchise…
