In case you missed it last night the Winnipeg Jets bowed out of the NHL’s Qualifying Series after losing their best of five series to the Calgary Flames in just four games.
While the Jets put forth a valiant effort, they simply couldn’t stack up offensively against the Flames thanks in large part to injuries sustained by Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine.
Both Scheifele and Laine were forced from their team’s lineup during Game 1 against the Flames and neither were able to return to the series. Yesterday following the Jets’ official elimination from the post-season both Scheifele and Laine came clean with the nature and severity of their injuries.
Check it out:
Sprained left hand (his top hand) for Patrik Laine, shoulder injury for Mason Appleton. More tests to come for Mark Scheifele. NHLJets HC Paul Maurice doesn’t think there are any long-term concerns though.
Ouch… that hurts.
Fans piled on Laine a bit when it was revealed that he wouldn’t play in Games 3 and 4, but… I mean… how is the guy supposed to shoot with a sprained hand?
Honestly though, this is a fitting end for the 2019-20 Jets season. This team has been through the injury ringer and it’s so perfectly fitting that they go bow out due to injuries to their two best offensive players. Ouch.
